Het klinkt te mooi om waar te zijn!
Ineens krijg je allemaal Facebook berichtjes met felicitaties, terwijl je nog geen idee hebt waarvoor….
Sinds dit jaar heb ik besloten om mee te doen met internationale bruidsfotowedstrijden; Fearless, ISPWP en ook WPJA.
Het proces om mee te doen aan deze wedstrijden is ontzettend leerzaam. De jury bestaat altijd uit goede fotografen die duizenden ingezonden beoordelen. Het is fantastisch om alle winnende foto’s te bekijken. Maar om zelf je foto’s te selecteren die je wilt gaan insturen vergt een hoop energie en tijd. Je moet anders naar je eigen foto’s gaan kijken dan dat je altijd hebt gedaan. Wat maakt deze foto nou bijzonder ten opzichte van al die duizenden andere foto’s die ik tijdens een trouwseizoen maak? Uiteindelijk kies je toch om foto’s in te sturen waar je trots op bent en waar je volledig achter staat.
Eind vorig jaar heb ik mijn foto’s ingestuurd voor de WPJA; de Wedding PhotoJournalist Association. Op hun website beschrijven zij zichzelf als volgt:

Zoals je je waarschijnlijk wel kan voorstellen ben ik super blij met deze mooie waardering dat maar liefst 5 van mijn foto’s hier een award hebben gekregen!

Two pictures in one of an urban backyard wedding. The contrast of the two backyards is two worlds. One has daily life with hanging laundry, the other is dressed up and ceremonial.
This is a wonderful juxtaposition. On one side we see life as it usually is, after all, doing the laundry is a common as shared by many that is forgotten as soon as the clothes are dry. On the other side we see life as a slice, one day in the lives of a community of friends and family that will forever be cherished, and thankfully, preserved as a visual footnote in time.

Some photos seem like they were just meant “to be.” But this humorous scene leans heavily on the fun expressions of the people in the foreground.

Great image of kids surrounding the wedding car. The kids make a perfect framing around the car. One side you see faces, and other side you see their backs makes for a nice composition.

Sometimes the bride and groom don’t have to be the center of attention. Sometimes the reaction to the bride and groom make the best photos. The kids have great expressions as the couple kiss. The photographer made a smart and creative decision to use the kissing couple to frame the kids.
